I'm new to CookShelf. How does it work?
Welcome! Here's the quick version.
Add your books. Scan the barcode on any cookbook, or search our catalog to find it. Once you add a book to your shelf, all its indexed recipes become searchable.
Search your recipes. Got zucchini you need to use up? Search "zucchini" and CookShelf shows you every recipe across all your cookbooks that uses it. You can search by ingredient, recipe name, dish type, cuisine – whatever you're in the mood for.
Find the recipe and cook. When you find something you want to make, CookShelf shows you the ingredients list and the page number in your book. Grab the book, turn to the page, and cook.
Track your cooking. Mark recipes as cooked, bookmark ones you want to try, add photos and notes, and set cooking goals for yourself.
A few things to know:
- CookShelf shows ingredients and page numbers but not full recipes or methods – the idea is to get you back to your books.
- Nearly 15,000 cookbooks are indexed, and we're adding more all the time. If a book you own isn't indexed yet, you can request it.
- CookShelf and Eat Your Books are the same company – your membership gives you access to both, and your library syncs between them.
